Form Follows Food

FOUR projects are sensory experiences based on the interaction between food and ceramics, offering a new approach to the table and what surrounds it.

“Form follows function”. FOUR designs its pieces to follow the shape of food. Intended to spark the imagination as much as to serve, the ceramics not only suggest their use, but also open up a dialogue between the plate and what it hosts, making the tableware an integral part of the gastronomic experience.

FOUR continues to explore new techniques and cultural influences, participating in residencies and exhibitions such as MAD Homes of Creators and Musée Bozar in Brussels, as well as in Mexico (Ceramica Suro) and Morocco (Ateliers Beldine).

Rescha SS26 (2025)

  • To showcase the SS26 Rescha collection during Paris Fashion Week, FOUR designed a table displaying different piles of plates to serve jewelry-like bites. Red sets the tone in echo to the collection.

Ceramica Suro Residency (Mexico — 2024)

  • At Cerámica Suro in Mexico, a renowned manufactory and art centre specialising in tiled murals, FOUR conceived Comida en Azulejos: a modular table composed of 30 × 30 cm tiles, forming an immersive culinary fresco. Seating up to twelve guests, it merges function and aesthetic, sculpture and gastronomy. Three meals were orchestrated in collaboration with chef Noé Viviès and sommelier-mixologist Lucy Rosedale. Une maison à Saint-Tropez (2021)

  • Invited by Isabelle Castanier to the 4th edition of Une Maison à Saint-Tropez—a project curated by Hélène Aguilar exploring the table as a space of connection and narrative—FOUR created a series of bowls echoing the energy and exchanges at the heart of the event.

Ateliers Beldine Residency (Morocco — 2024)

  • In January 2023, FOUR took part in a one month residency at Ateliers Beldine in Tameslouht, Morocco. For the first time, the studio explored the combination of hand-throwing and hand-building techniques, creating a collection in support of the Centre Fiers et Forts, intended to provide a budget for creative activities for children with the workshop. The experience culminated in a banquet for the teams of both the Ateliers and the Centre, served in the pieces crafted on-site.

WORKSHOP CENTRE FIERS ET FORTS

  • During the Ateliers Beldine residency, FOUR organised a workshop with the children of the Centre Fiers et Forts: sculptures inspired by ingredients were shaped, baked in an open fire, and then broken open for tasting, reintroducing play into the act of eating.

BOZAR BRUXELLES (2023)

  • Invited by the collective Gilbard to participate to the “Souper Show” for the Nuit Blanche at the Bozar Fine Arts Museum in Brussels, FOUR designed a table entirely modelled in clay, where vegetables were baked inside the clay and retrieved by breaking their crust — reviving a playful culinary gesture.

Boucan (2022)

  • Exhibition at Boucan, a florist-gallery in Brussels. Inspired by plastic flower buckets, the sculptural pieces integrated seamlessly into the shop, serving as the setting for a buffet merging both universes.

Sueur Festival (Belgium — 2022)

  • For the Sueur Festival in Brussels, FOUR imagined a buffet centred on the potato: dishes moulded on stacks of potatoes, baked in a clay crust and eaten by breaking the shell with small custom-made hammers — a playful, tactile dining ritual.

In Process Forest (Belgium — 2021)

  • FOUR’s first buffet, created in 2021, featured pieces designed specifically for the event: an egg tower for the studio’s emblematic œuf-mayo, cracker holders and individual gravy boats, adapted to COVID-19 safety measures. Photos: Margaux Senlis.
